Sitting here today being bored I started to look into what was new with hand held GPS's and discovered the new Oregon line from Garmin. These things are freaking amazing. The Oregon GPS takes things to a whole new level. They have taken the touch screen technology that most of y'all are well aware of with the new car GPS's everyone seems to have now and puts it into a hand held GPS. This thing is like the iPhone of the GPS world. It has a new ergonomic design along with a new slick way to attach it to a mount. Since it is touch screen they have been able to remove all the bulky buttons and dials and expanded the viable color screen. The only button on the Oregon is the on and off.
There are several GPS's in the Oregon line. The 400c comes pre-loaded with Bluechart tech with coastal charts. The 400i comes pre-loaded with inland lakes. The 400t comes pre-loaded with US topographic maps. All of these come with Barometric altimeter, wireless data sharing, touchscreen, high sensitivity GPS receiver, color display, a microSD card slot, and all are water proof. There are also a couple basic models that you can upload maps as u want; the 200 and 300. Then there are there are the 550 and 550t that come with a built in camera; you will be paying another 100 for it though.
The Oregon's also come with something called paperless geocashing that I found to be a awesome idea. Just download the geocashing info from the Geocashing web site and go. Then if you want to use your GPS for Turn by turn driving there is a microSD for that to boot. From your car to the trail this thing can be tailored to your environment and traveling.

So cleaning up a while back I came across some old pics from back in high school X3. These were taken after me and my pal John waded across the river after a big rain one fall evening >.>. Water was going over the dam like crazy and well we were crazy back then :P, but who wasn't i guess. Though through it all my friend Brandon Wollie and my gf at the time Jessica stayed back at the truck. They chickened out :P wonder why.. hummm.. Maybe the fast moving, cold ass river water >.> Anyway the pictures. o-o

This was me X3 thinking back boots and jeans weren't the best to wear
Photobucket

This was me and Jessica. She got her foot wet at least and put up to my crazy adventures :P

John also drenched after the crazy water crossing

I finally got some film of the motor since I've gotten it running right. I took it out Tuesday with Thomas and Lucy. Also they are HONORABLE quality cuz I used my cell phone, sorry X3.

In other news I would have posted these sooner but I've had a temp of 102 since Thursday with some kind of virus... Am atm all drugged up so I'm okay and its down to 99.7 last I checked. Should be better soon I hope. Being sick SUCKSSSSS!

Ok I dont usual recommend movies much but this is def a must see. It is a world where everyone just about uses androids, surrogates. In this world not far into the future people log into there surrogates just like u log on to your computer and play a game like WOW or prob more like SecondLife. People can do and be what ever they wont with no limits. A very interesting and plausible idea with in it self but just like with being online in a game there is addiction. Leaving a world with few "humans"

Well i think its time for a update on my boat motor project. So far I got it running like a champ. Tested it out on a pals boat, it really has a lot of tork for a tiny outboard. Next was a tare down of the motor to see what needed to be fixed or replaced.
Through the tare down i ran into a lot of issues with the simple fact that some numb nuts engineer thought it would be a good idea to use ALUMINUM screws and bolts in freaking ALUMINUM! This is a huge no no in engineering and mainly in stuff that will be exposed to the elements and well water >.> You see alum corrodes and will eventually fuse to another.
The first thing that i tried to conquer was the lower unit and prop, which was fused to it self >.>. The prob is made to slip on the Zephyr. It is over a bronze cone and inside the alum prop is lead, fallowed by a heavy bronze spring and alum nut. The tighter you tighten the nut the less it will slip. When i tried to take the nut off nothing seemed to make it budge, liquid wrench, kerosene, fire, beating it senselessly... Finally i put it in the vice and got a big tork rod and socket and pulled till the it came off leaving part of it inside the prop, under the nut it was stepped to go inside the spring some. Some drilling got the rest of it out but it was till corroded on right from the alum dust... I finally got it off with a lot of heat, banging, and melting the lead a little >.>
Next on the list was getting the dents out of the tank. It didn't look like i was gonna be able to get inside the tank to beat them out so I got some Bondo. A lot of sanding and primer and now it looks like it never was dented. After using Bondo I don't see y so many people knock it so bad. I mean if you use it right it works wonders. If u don't though and put too much up there filling in the grand canyon you are gonna have a lot of trouble.
After all that today I ordered some new bolts and screws that are NOT alum for some of the vital areas of the motor that i either had to drill out or just straight up were gone like the ones holding the recoil down. I replaced most of them with stainless and silicon bronze where i could. At this point restoring it with original parts apposed to making it right the way it should have been made, the right way tops the list.

This was the first run of the motor on the pond. You can see how much shit and mess was in it from looking at all the oil flowing down the under water exhaust pipe. I wasn't very environmentally friendly that day :P Also it wasn't putting out much power since the two lower cylinders on that run got full of crud from being run for the first time in prob like 40 years. After some cleaning it just about planed that heavy ass barge or a jon boat with me Lucy and my pal John. Also Lucy was lending a paw and enjoying the ride.

here are some pics of the bondo job: http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m44/wwkayaker386/9-5-09/0926091536a.jpg http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m44/wwkayaker386/9-5-09/0926091536.jpg

and one of the mess of parts in the barn atm http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m44/wwkayaker386/9-5-09/1008091412.jpg

There are also loads of pics that I took here of a lot of the things I did thus far here :3 http://s101.photobucket.com/albums/m44/wwkayaker386/9-5-09/

So before the Meet-up this week end I went over to the Flea market. I found a few good pipes, but the find of the day was a 1949 EVINRUDE 5.4 HP 4 cylinder out board motor. It's in good condition and has good compression. Also from talking with the guy I bought it from I can pretty much find any part I might need, from the gaskets to the decals on the sides. It is missing the pull handle though.. that might be the hardest to find. The handle is shaped like a bulb and is made of heavy black rubber with a aluminum center. I'll try to post more updates on it as I fix it up and one day I will get a boat to out it on >.>Old Outboard )Old Outboard )

Needs some new decals

I honestly didn't believe it had 4 cylinders till I opened her up

This is the "new" Maytag Hit and Miss engine that we got a couple days ago. Hit and miss engines only fire when the the rpm goes down. The rest of the time the exhaust is open letting he piston move in and out freely, until it needs to fire. This one fires alot faster than most hit and miss. It was originally used in a Maytag washing machine.

Oh and sorry about the shaky bad quality movie. I used my cell to record it :P
